From 21st April 2015 Google changed the rules so that websites not designed for ease of use on mobile devices will loose out to their competitors.
In recent years Google has prompted web developers to focus on making sites mobile friendly by raising the profile of such web sites. Conversely with the latest announcement sites that are not designed for easy viewing and navigation on mobiles will have there ranking marked down.
